Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task

In our preliminary task we used the skills we have learnt to create a short film that shows conversation, numerous camera angles and match on action.

To fufill this task we ended up creating 2 preliminary videos , one that shows conversation and the other which shows match on action and one which also shows our editing skills , this involved showing our understanding of continuity editing.

In our first preliminary our plan was to use all four of our team in order to create a conversation between to bullies, a student and a teacher, however this was to be done using the 180 degree rule, as we came to the editing of out short film , we came across a few obstacles, as we didnt include the 180 degree rule in our short film. However , there were some positives about our short film as we included match on action which was in the main criteria for our short film and we also kept in with the guidlines, this included continuity editing.

The sound in this film is also at a poor quality as the sound was filmed from the camera and not from a microphone, this makes it very hard for the audience to hear the conversations invloved.

The costumes in this film are just normal clothes as it is filmed in a sixth form college so they didnt need to be complex as they had to fit the surroundings.

If we could film this again we would of used a microphone in order to pick up the sound more and also we would of used more of a conversation in the film. However one positive about this first film was that we kept to the guidlines and the film flowed and it was continuous.

This is a match on action shot that we used of sophie opening the door that we used in our final preliminary.

This is a medium two shot showing the people in the frame and also the scene behind them.

This is a overhead shot that shows the characters at a lower angle as the camera is above them.

This is a close up shot of sophie, this allows the audience to see the facial expressions of the character of the short film.

This is a long shot of sophie which shows her surroundings and also due to there being no other people around, this shows that Sophie is lonely which fits in with the fact of her being bullied.

This is our second Film opening, there were both positives and negatives about this film, one positive was that the film involved a conversation between the two actors at first, also for the majority of our film we stuck to the 180 degree rule, however this was comprimised in one shot of the film where it is filmed from the other side.

However, a negative of this film is that coninuity editing is poor, as it doesnt seem to flow as good as the first film, also during the conversation the camera is abit shaky due to us not using the tripod to keep it steady. As for the sound in this video, it is also recorded by the camera and not a microphone so the quality of sound is poor.

If we was to do the film opening again, we would change alot of things about the film, this would include us using a tripod to stop the camera from shaking and also sticking to the 180 degree rule in order to fit in with the criteria.
